Derby County sack Paul Clement after 8 months

5th in the Championship but no League wins in 7 having just spent more money in January.
Have put the Academy director in charge for the rest of the season as they 'had not made enough progress'.
Seems a bizarre way to guarantee bowing out of the promotion race.
Isn't he just doing an 'Allardyce' style job this season?

It's a very odd decision
Derby County chairman Mel Morris has been speaking to BBC East Midlands Today about the Championship club's decision to sack head coach Paul Clement on Monday.
The Rams are fifth in the table, five points behind leaders Hull City.
Morris said: "When Paul was hired we spelt out the plan. That was to take the squad that we have had for two seasons, who had almost got us there, to add depth and strength to it and then to look at player improvement and team improvement.
"We just haven't made enough progress - it's as simple as that.
"It (winning promotion to the Premier League) was never really a target this season. I said that in the fans' forum, reiterated it again in November. Paul was told on day one that was not the target."

Paul Clement's brother Neil played for West Brom. Their father Dave was an England international right back who played for QPR..( he sadly committed suicide in the eighties..)

Just seems an odd decision to replace him with the Academy manager. Well in the mix for the playoffs at least and would expect to finish the season stronger with all the money spent

Apparently sacked for not buying into the clubs ethos and targets from a whole club perspective, and desire to play and behave in a certain way as Derby County FC.
If true almost the exact opposite of what happened here with Allardyce where we were happy to accept him warts and all at boardroom level as long as the league table said the right thing.
Does seem strange though.

Weird decision being only 5 points off top
but with the playing squad and money spent they should be well clear at the top. If they dont go up im sure they would fall into FFP trouble so assuming they have someone lined up to steer them into the prem

Think it's a very odd decision really - it's a tight league and he's doing a good job. Look at what happened in 2012 with reading - they just suddenly clicked and stormed up the table. That could easily be Derby this season. I hope they fuck up now, just like they messed up last season - the board doesn't deserve success if they're going to behave like that.
